Description:
Nieto Senetiner Bonarda 2004 comes from the Lujan de Cuyo vineyard in the Mendoza region of Argentina and is located 3600 ft. above sea level, with northeastern exposure and an alluvial and pebbled rock soil composition. The first vintage was bottled in 2001 and 7,000 bottles are produced annually. The vineyard is 250 acres, planted in 1975, with a density of 1600 vines per acre. The vines are planted in the trellis method and yield 4 tons per acre. The harvest is carried out each April.
Winery:
Bodegas Nieto Senetiner was established in 1888 in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. This traditional winery, dedicated to the elaboration of high-end premium wines, is considered one of the top wineries in the country. Bodegas Nieto Senetiner has 1,000 acres of proprietary-owned vineyards in Mendoza, the country's best wine growing region. The winery has a state of the art bottling facility and a total wine capacity of 10 million liters. "Cadus" comes from the ancient Latin word for barrel. For Bodegas Nieto Senetiner, Cadus is the result of a constant search for excellence in the vineyard. This reflects the curiosity, innovation and experimentation that characterizes Bodegas Nieto Sentiner.
Vinification:
The maceration period is 20-25 days and the wine is fermented in cement tanks at a temperature of 80-85 degrees for seven days. The wine is then aged in French Oak barrels for one year and an additional one year in the bottle prior to release from the winery.
Bouquet or Aromas:
Dark as night, this crimson-red wine with black notes shows attractive aromas of smoky oak from one year of aging, truffles, mushrooms and tobacco, combined with the blackberry fruits of black cherry and black raspberry, typical of this variety.
Taste:
On the palate it is complex, with mature tannins and holds a strong personality with a balanced and supple finish. Medium-bodied, the wine is somewhat seamless, lush and quite fruit forward. The wine is very rich with layers of plum and blackberry on the palate and a very rich layer of toast on the finish.
Pairings:
Bonarda is big wine that enjoys a great hearty fare. This is a rich robust wine that pairs well with meats and wild game. The perfect barbeque wine, winter roasts, wild turkey and wild meats like bison, boar and deer. These dishes work well when made with herbs and mushrooms in a rich concentrated broth that brings out the earthy note of the wine and plays off the black berry fruits and smoky oak of the wine.
Cheese Pairing:
Ossau-Iraty Fermier
