Description:
Alcyone, a Greek demi-goddess, was the daughter of Eolo and his wife Ceyx. They were happy together, until Ceyx perished in a shipwreck and Alcyone, in despair threw herself into the sea. Out of compassion, the gods changed her into a Halcyon bird. Since Alcyone made her nest on the beach, and waves threatened to destroy it, Eolo restrained his winds and made the waves calm during seven days so she could lay her eggs. These became known as the "Halcyn Days" when storms never occur. Alcyone became the goddess of calm and tranquility. As the story ends with tranquility, so does the long-some finish of the Tannat Dessert Wine. If you are a fan of the Alcyone dessert wine you will not want to miss the Alcyone Reserve.
Winery:
The Viñedo de los Vientos property has been in the Fallabrino family since 1947. With an aim to produce great wines in small quantities, in 1998, the Fallabrino family completed an ultra modern winery with stainless steel tanks, pneumatic presses and French oak barrels. Despite these modern tools, they like to make wine with forgotten or less-known old wine-making techniques. Over the past 17 years, the vineyards have been completely replanted transforming the vineyards into a world class viticultural property. Viñedo de los Vientos translates into "Vineyard of the Winds" and is located where the river Plate Estuary, the largest in the world, and the Atlantic Ocean meet. This provides clean cool ocean breezes and the ideal climate for the maturation of fine wine grapes.
Vinification:
The grapes are hand picked at a very high sugar level and macerated with selected roots and herbs for 15 days. They are then fermented in stainless steel tanks and allowed to go through 100% malolactic fermentation. The reserve version is fortified with pure grappa and aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels.

Bouquet or Aromas:
A radiant color of deep opaque purple highlights this magnificent wine. This Alcyone Reserve nose has the same bouquet of winter flowers, Madagascan vanilla bean with marshmallow and wild apple mint only more intense. There are also delicious hints of dark chocolate in the nose. The sweet grappa aromas with those hints of vanilla invade your senses. A truly great red dessert wine not to be missed.
Taste:
On the palate you will feel its honey-like texture with a warm and savory touch of white cacao soufflé, chocolate, mint and almond flavors mix together into one flavor giving an extremely long finish to this wine. The tannins are quite polished and integrated into the flavors of this fascinating and unique wine. This is a wine like none other you have tasted. The marriage of roots, herbs and wine come together and capture flavors that will challenge the most sophisticated palate.
Pairings:
This wine is a chocolate lovers dream. Chocolate soufflé, molten chocolate cake or chocolate tart are all a perfect match for this wine. Another great match for this wine is blue cheese from Roquefort to Gorgonzola to Cashel Blue.
Cheese Pairing:
Gorgonzola Dolce
