Description:
The Campo Rotaliano is a well-demarcated geographical area in the Adige Valley in Trentino, Italy. This is also the tiny production zone designated as the Teroldego Rotaliano D.O.C. and the home of the very rare Teroldego Grape. Teroldego is called the prince of Trentino wines because of its rareness and unique characteristics. With low yields and proper handling, the Teroldego wine will produce age able wine with intense color, unique aromas and rich flavors. The wine has a unrivaled quality of rich fruit, earthy notes and savory flavors that makes it a wine of exceptionally unique character and complexity. A wine that must be tried.
Winery:
The winery was taken over by Elisabetta Foradori, then a teenager, two decades ago after her father was taken tragically early by cancer. Elisabetta has taken the Teroldego grape from obscurity to a highly regarded rare
wine of the world. The vineyards are located in the town of Mezzolombardo, Campazzi and Settepergole and totals about 16 hectares. The soil is alluvial with pebbles and gravel deposited by the Noce River over
the centuries with huge quantities of limestone, granite and porphyry debris.
Vinification:
The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled metal tanks and aged 12 months in small oak casks before bottling.
Bouquet or Aromas:
The color is a rich red plum, with spices of cinnamon, clove, allspice and an array of ripe black cherry, black plum and rasperry fruit aromas with a hint of pepper.
Taste:
The palate is filled with the same ripe fruit flavors of black cherry, black plums and a balanced acidity that finishes with a velvety texture. Tha tannins a well intergrated and work well with the mild pepper finish.
Pairings:
This wine works well with an Italian-style braised beef dish. A roasted chicken with a very rich sauce or a paste made with Italian sausage.
Cheese Pairing:
Parmigiano-Reggiano
