Description:
La Parrina is a farm estate nestled in the pristine area of the Tuscan Maremma. It is located just a few miles off the Roman Aurelia road, 50 miles north of Rome on the Tuscan coast, and nearby is the fantastic Argentario promontory vacation area. Made from 100% Ansonica, a rare grape that was most likely brought to Italy by the Greeks. Also known as Inzolia or Insolia in Sicily, it thrives along the Tyrrhenian coast. The first vintage was bottled in 1995.
Winery:
The Parrina cultivated 450 hectares of vineyards, Ansonica comes from the Casetta di Mezzo vineyards, located 120 feet above sea level, with north and south exposure and a sand and silt soil composition. 12 acres planted in 1989 with a density of 3,500 vines per acre. The vines are planted in the high spur-pruned, cordon method and yields 3.2 tons per acre. The harvest was carried out in late September. The wine under the name of "Ansonica dell'Argentario" was awarded DOC status in 1995.
Vinification:
At La Parrina, they employ careful vinification techniques, starting with a very soft pressing of the grapes with pneumatic presses. The must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 12 days. There is no malolactic fermentation carried out. The wine is aged 7 months in stainless steel tanks followed by an additional 4 months in the bottle prior to release from the winery.
Bouquet or Aromas:
The wine is straw-yellow in color and exhibits a distinctive fruit fragrance with a captivating herbal scent, with hints of green tea, melon and lemon/lime aromas and dry flowers. The aromas of this wine are aromatic and exotic with the perfect balance of fruit and acidity. The aromas reach out of the glass and say, " try me".
Taste:
Fresh , crisp and minerally with great balance and a pleasing acidity with a dense texture of fresh hay, anise, lemons with a hint of green tea. The balance of this wine makes it fun and refreshing , with outstanding fruit and exotic flavors that will have you coming back for more.
