Description:
The Premium Torrontes comes from Alta Vista's winery in the Argentinean region of Salta founded in 1997. The original winery dates from 1890. Some of the world's highest vineyards are located here at altitudes up to 2,000 meters A.S.L.. The region of Cafayate in Salta is particularly famous for its unique microclimate, high altitude and excellent soil drainage and is confirmed as the best place in the world to grow Torrontes. Alta Vista was one of the first to invest in Torrontes vineyards in this now famous area. Alta Vista is part of Edonia, a French family company producing high quality wine in France, Argentina and Hungary.
Winery:
Started in 1997, this original winery had its adobe walls demolished and rebuilt in brick. This preserves all the charm of the original winery without the defects of adobe. They have 198, 150-gallon capacity cement/epoxy vats and 250,990 gallons in stainless steel. There are 382 acres of vineyards with a capacity of 1.7 million liters. This Lujan de Cuyo based winery was established over one hundred and eighteen years ago and is one of the best organized for wine tourism. The tasting room is set in one of the original concrete tanks stylistically redesigned using old oak and barrel bands. The original underground barrel cellars are guaranteed to impress.
Vinification:
After a brief maceration on the skin, the Premium Torrontes is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and does not undergo malolactic fermentation or oak aging.
Bouquet or Aromas:
Bright pale yellow color with a green hue and delicate floral aromas of roses, white peaches, honeysuckle and apricot. The wine is exuberant and has very refreshing aromas that will excite the senses and bring back memories of summer with an almost sweet scent but the wine is bone dry.
Taste:
Light-medium body, with light racy acidity. The front palate is dominated by honeycomb, allowing some white peaches, apricot and unexpected mild lemon notes to be revealed. This wine is alluring on the palate and very easy to drink. Your senses tell you the wine will be slightly sweet but the wine is dry, floral and pleasing.
Pairings:
Torrontés produces a unique partnership with spicy food from Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai dishes. Try it with spicy Kung Pao Chicken or Sushi. It also goes very well with Northern Argentinean food, such as the typical empanadas and corn stew.
Cheese Pairing:
Beemster Classic
