Description:
Leaving the bustle of the coastal capital, Palermo, and traveling inland through one of Italy's most dramatic landscapes, one will discover Regaleali, the estate of the Tasca d' Almerita family. Located in the mountainous heart of Sicily, Regaleali is a vast estate owned by the Tasco d'Almerita family since 1830. Thousands of roses, brought from all over the world were the inspiration for the name of this wine to reflect these incredible flowers. Made from the Nerello Mascalese grape which is named after the Mascari Plain in Catania, Sicily where the grape is thought to have originated.
Winery:
The grapes come from the Baracche, S. Giuseppe, and S. Rosa vineyards, located 1,400 to 2,300 feet above sea level, with varied exposure and calcareous, clay soil composition. 80 acres planted in 1959 with a density
of 1,619 vines per acre. The vines are planted in the guyot method and yield 4 tons per acre. The harvest is carried out in September and October. The historic Regaleali winery has just recently been renovated.
Vinification:
The grapes are harvested , then pressed in pneumatic presses, transferred to stainless steel tanks with the skins where the wine is macerated for about one day with 4 pumpovers. The juice is then transferred to new stainless steel tanks where the wine is fermented at a temperature of 60 to 64 degrees for 15 days.
There is no malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 3 months, bottled and aged an additional month and released.
Bouquet or Aromas:
Bright, deep and intense pink color, Le Rose offers an intriguing yet delicate bouquet of cherry, raspberry. strawberry and mulberry, with hints of rose pedal and red apple.
Taste:
Pleasant sensation of fresh fruit, strawberry, cherry and rose pedal with hints of cranberry and butterscotch. The flavors of this wine standout and are very appealing. Some wines are meant to be drunk young but this wine has matured with that extra year in the bottle. Refreshing but with a firm mouth structure.
Pairings:
Great with fish, poultry, spaghetti with clams, fried calamari and risotto or marinara. A great substitute for a red wine at an afternoon barbeque or pool party. A wine to share with hamburgers, hot dogs, barbequed chicken or stuffed pork chops on the grill.
Cheese Pairing:
Le Chèvre Noir
