Description:
Alcyone, a Greek demi-goddess, was the daughter of Eolo and his wife Ceyx. They were happy together, until Ceyx perished in a shipwreck and Alcyone, in despair threw herself into the sea. Out of compassion, the gods changed her into a Halcyon bird. Since Alcyone made her nest on the beach, and waves threatened to destroy it, Eolo restrained his winds and made the waves calm during seven days so she could lay her eggs. These became known as the "Halcyn Days" when storms never occur. Alcyone became the goddess of calm and tranquility. As the story ends with tranquility, so does the long-some finish of the Tannat Dessert Wine.

Winery:
The Viñedo de los Vientos property has been in the Fallabrino family since 1947. With an aim to produce great wines in small quantities, in 1998, the Fallabrino family completed, an ultra modern winery with stainless steel tanks, pneumatic presses and French oak barrels. Despite these modern tools they like to make wine with forgotten or less-known old wine-making techniques. Over the past 17 years the vineyards have been completely replanted transforming the vineyards into a world class viticultural property. Viñedo de los Vientos translates into "Vineyard of the Winds" and is located where the river Plate Estuary, the largest in the world, and the Atlantic Ocean meet. This provides clean cool ocean breezes and the ideal climate for the maturation of fine wine grapes.
Vinification:
The grapes are hand picked at a very high sugar level and macerated with selected roots and herbs for 15 days. They are then fermented in stainless steel tanks and allowed to go through 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine sees no barrel aging and is bottled non-vintage.
Bouquet or Aromas:
A radiant amber purple hue color, Alcyone nose has a bouquet of winter flowers, Madagascan vanilla bean and marshmallow and wild apple mint. There are also delicious hints of chocolate in the nose.
Taste:
On the palate you will feel its honey like texture with a warm and savory touch of white cacao soufflé. The tannins are quite polished and integrate into the flavors of this fascinating and unique wine. This is a wine like none other you have tasted. The marriage of roots, herbs and wine come together and capture flavors that will challenge the most sophisticated palate.
Pairings:
This wine is a chocolate lovers dream. Chocolate soufflé, molten chocolate cake or chocolate tart are all a perfect match for this wine. Another great match for this wine is Blue cheese from Roquefort to Gorgonzola to Cashel Blue.
Cheese Pairing:
Stilton Colsten Basset
